The Australian company Telstra offers a full range of telecommunication services: home phone, mobile, Internet and TV, with a vast geographical coverage through both fixed and mobile network infrastructure. The company’s vision is to create solutions that are simple, easy and valued by its customers. Already market leader in Australia, Telstra is expanding to the Asia-Pacific region, with new operations in New Zealand, China and Hong Kong. The company’s sales revenues have been increasing in the past five years, registering a profit almost 10% higher in 2009 than the previous year. The main growth comes from the mobile services (including wireless broadband), while the company has noted a significant slow down in subscriber growth in fixed broadband. Meanwhile, Telstra’s IP Metropolitan Area Network continues to register double digit growth.

Telstra Privatization

Telstra was privatized over 3 stages, which investors will recognise as being T1, T2 and T3. The privatization process began in 1997.
In 1997, investors paid $3.30 for Telstra shares. In 1999 the share price rose significantly, resulting in investors paying $7.40 in the T2 round.
In the T3 round, the Telstra share price for retail investors was much lower, at $3.60 – which represented a massive loss for T2 investors
